Volunteers needed for Girl Scout Engineers! program on Oct 13th


The Girl Scout Council of Greater Atlanta presents Girl Scout Engineers!

Description:  Connect with others as we present a program designed by the Society of Women Engineers to help girls discover the world of science exploration!  Women in engineering careers will lead girls in a variety of hands-on science activities.  Meet women engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs and get a chance to learn about exciting science careers.  Lunch will be provided to all registered participants.

Volunteers: We are looking for a dozen female engineers to introduce 100 “future engineers” to the world of engineering.  This is a popular girl scout program and this year we have expanded the age groups and activities.

Program Level: Girl Scout Junior (Gr 4-5), Girl Scout Cadette (Gr 6-8) 

Location: DeVry University, Alpharetta Campus, 2555 Northwinds Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30009 

Electric Circuits & Magnets Build circuits to light a light bulb. Magnet Discovery Kit with 10 activities Electrical Engineering
Simple Machines Lego Kit to create simple machines.  This is a neat kit with lots of designs and challenge cards. Physics
Roller Car Make a wind-up roller car and see how far it will go. Mechanical Engineering
Solar Car Work in teams to build a solar car using kits with small solar panels Environmental Engineering
Slime Yuck! Make Slime (more like Silly Putty) and a bouncy ball. Chemical Engineering
Bridge Building For senior level (9-12th grade), use kit to create bridges.  This is a nice kit and this activity will span two 45 minutes sessions Civil Engineering
